A while back I started to drink green smoothies, but stopped again because I made some smoothies that were a bit too “green” for my taste and somehow those experiences ruined it for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love veggies of all kinds, but for me, smoothies have to be rather sweet so that I really enjoy them. For example I don’t like to put dandelion leaves or arugula into smoothies, because they make them taste too bitter.
Nevertheless I got excited again for green smoothies when my friend told me how she started to make green smoothies and how she loves them. Her excitement was contagious, so that I now also started to make green smoothies again.
Also, I feel like my body is screaming for healthy food lately, so this might just be what it needs.
The smoothie recipe I made today is a great one to start your day! Not only because it tastes very refreshing and sweet but also because it’s high in all kind of vitamins and minerals that benefit your health and protect your body.
Benefits:
The combination of tangerines and kale is great for iron intake, which is important for your bodys oxygen transportation, lung function, cell growth and more. Kale is very high in iron (more than beef!) and tangerines help the body to absorb it.
And these are some other benefits of the ingredients used in this smoothie:
vitamin K (good bone health, against cancer), vitamin A (good for vision and skin), vitamin C (good for imune system and hydration), vitamin B (maintaining red blood cells and the nervous system in good health), calcium (prevents bone loss), high in fiber (great for detoxing the body, prevents the development of certain diseases), omega 3 fats (good for the brain, lower “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good cholesterol” levels in the blood), antioxidants (boosts heart health, protection from chronic disease), potassium (regulates healthy nervous system, lowers blood pressure), natural sugar (energy boost).
Here is what you need to mix for 2 drinks:
