Welcome To My Kitchen

November 28, 2013

Anyone who loves cooking and baking like I do, spends a lot of time in the kitchen and therefor this room should be a place you enjoy being. Creating a nice environment makes cooking even more fun!

When we moved into our apartment last year I was excited about creating a nice workspace in the kitchen. And even though we were on a low budget and the kitchen itself is not my dream kitchen, we managed to add enough detail to make it feel cozy and enjoyable.

In case you are curious about those details, you can scroll down and see some of the things that we added to our kitchen. Maybe you’ll find inspiration too!

A kitchen trolley is great for additional work and storage space.

Welcome!

It was very important to me to have enough space to prepare food, so we bought this kitchen trolley which is also practical to store jars and so on.

I'm a sucker for glass jars!

Since I started to buy less plastic, I kind of became obsessed with glass. Glass jars, glass containers, glass bottles… I store everything in glass now. And it looks pretty too!

Another detail I love is this ledge where I decorated some of my favorite cookbooks on.

It was also important to us, that we are able to sit down in the kitchen. Either for eating a small snack, for looking up a recipe or for keeping the cook company. So we added this little bench, a gift of my dad, and it fits perfectly. The pillow is a reminder of my dream to live on a farm one day…

It's all about the farm...

When deciding which water boiler to get, it was important for us to get one where the water doesn’t come in contact with plastic. We found this beautiful one and are totally happy. It wasn’t the cheapest, but I believe that buying quality is always the better investment. Especially when it is a piece that you use every day.

Another thing I use almost every day is this:

Vegetable brush

It’s a vegetable brush! If you don’t have one I can really recommend it. It makes washing vegetables so much easier and you don’t have to peel carrots or potatoes anymore. A great little helper.

I prefer fresh herbs to dried ones so I love having herb pots just in reach while cooking. And they add a lot of coziness to the kitchen.

Another thing that I can’t cook without anymore is my cookbook stand. I don’t know why I didn’t buy one earlier. It saves space and makes cooking more stress free ; )

No more fatty finger prints in the cookbook ; )

So, now you know where I spend my quality cooking time! ; ) But I’m curious – what kitchen details do you love and can’t cook without anymore?

PS: By the way… I wish the kitchen was always this tidy. Maybe I should add some “after cooking” pictures because somehow I always manage to make the kitchen look as if a hurricane went through it. : )
