This morning, right after waking up, a few words shot into my mind as if they came out of nowhere. The words I heard myself thinking were: “You only have one body.” Just that one sentence. Strangely, it was my 29th birthday the day before and it felt as if something was reminding me to take good care of myself, be healthy, fit and happy, because I only have this one body and this one life, so I better make the best out of it. Time is moving fast and it‘s important to enjoy yourself and live happy moments as often as possible!
Yesterday I did just that. Even though I had to spend most of the day by myself, I celebrated every moment of it and at the end I thought to myself that there is actually no need to wait for special occasions like a birthday to have days like those. We should all celebrate ourselves, our health and life much more often! And it doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant either. For me, there are so many small things that bring me great pleasure.
Today I wanted to share some pictures of how I celebrated my 29th birthday. Even though my friends were definitely missing, I had a wonderful day. A lot of it involved food actually (surprise!!)! 😀 But at least I tried to keep it on the healthy side…
In the morning I went for a walk in the forest, which I love doing because it makes me relaxed and puts me in a good mood.
Also, it was “Arbor Day” (what an honor to have birthday on the day of the trees! ;-)) so I felt like it was appropriate to give a high five to a tree. Ok, it was more like a gentle stroke.
Here is a wish in the making! You should make one too, like right now. Do it!
When I came back home I had breakfast. And what’s better for birthday breakfast than cake, right? I made this pretty cake the day before and tried a new raw vegan recipe from the blog This Rawsome Vegan Life.
After talking to some family and friends I got ready and took the train to Zürich, which is about half hour from here.
After walking around for a bit, I had a light lunch at Freshii. A healthy bowl with whole wheat rice, different veggies and a peanut sauce. Yummers!
Dessert was just around the corner at the vegan ice cream cafe Vegelateria. They have awesome ice cream, most of which is only sweetened with natural sweeteners like dates. My new favorite flavor is lemon-cardamom!
It was such lovely weather, sunny and around 20°C.
I stopped by one of my favorite stores in Zürich called Change Maker. They have only eco & fair products.
I left the store with two teas which smell amazing. Can’t wait to try them!
Walking around makes thirsty! So I bought a big orange-carrot-ginger juice at the Saftladen. I brought my own bottle and was happy when they didn’t hesitate to use it instead of giving me one of those plastic cups.
My boyfriend picked me up in the afternoon and we went to a tomato plant market. But it was so crowded and we would have had to stand in a long line, so we decided to leave again. At least we got to enjoy a beautiful tulip garden that was right next to the tomato market.
The day ended with a great Meze dinner at a moroccan Restaurant called Maison Blunt.
I stuffed my face with so much babaganoush that I basically rolled back home!
Happy times!
I was sooo happy to receive lots of phone calls and messages of my loved ones during the day. Even though it was fun to spend a day (almost) on my own, the best part was to feel the love of those very special people that I’m lucky to have in my life. If some of you read this… thank you for your love. You are awesome!
So how do you guys and gals like to spend a special day? Any favorite places you go to or fun activities you love to do? I’m curious to hear!
Much love xxx
