Have you ever wondered how much paper towels we waste, while you were drying your hands at a puplic toilet? I often just wipe my hands on my trousers when I see the amout of paper towels boiling out of the trash can.
Eventhough a lot of puplic toilets allready have greener options, like cloth towel dispenser or electric handdryer (yes, suprisingly they are overall greener than paper towels), you can never really count on a green option in puplic places.
When I read about this new thing called “People Towel” I could only think: “This is so simple, why did I never get the idea?!” Well, that’s also what I thought about fire and the wheel, but luckily there was someone faster than me! 😉
People Towel is a personal towel you can take everywhere you go. It was created by Mary Wallace who got the idea in Japan, where apparently you can hardly find paper towels in public places and people usually have their own “on-the-go” hand towels.
Using towels isn’t a new idea really (I mean, what did people do before the paper towel was invented?) BUT these People Towels are some kind of modern reinvention of an old idea.
What differentiates the People Towel to a normal hand towel is that it is small (9×9 inches), light, eco-friendly, very absorbent and most importantly fast-drying. Plus, they are very cute to look at, which always makes going green even more fun. 😉

And if you still need to be convinced that using paper towels is not that good of an idea, check out the impact they have on the environment:
- To make one ton of paper towels, 17 trees are cut down and 20,000 gallons of water are consumed.
- Every day, over 3,000 tons of paper towel waste is produced in the US alone.
- Decomposing paper towels produce methane gas, a leading cause of global warming.
- Paper is the largest contributor to municipal landfill waste in 2006.
- The average person uses 2,400 – 3,000 paper towels at work, in a given year

Now, is People Towel a great idea or what?
