Snow has finally arrived in the small town we live in. On sunday morning I woke up early and when I saw the snow outside, it immediately sparked excitement in me. I never lost the excitement for snow since I was a child and I hope I never will. There is something so beautiful and magical about those layers of freshly fallen snow, right? The sound that it makes when you walk on it and the absence of all other noise, swallowed by the snow. In contrast to the biting cold and darkness of the winter, snow makes everything it covers appear soft and bright.
I got up, grabbed Fritzi, who also couldn’t wait to get outside and we took a long walk in the forest. Since it was early, we were the first ones to walk on the snow for most of the way. Only traces of wild animals crossed the path.
Even though I did experience a lot of winters with snow (mostly in north Germany), this walk in the forest was one of the most beautiful snow experiences. I’m glad I took the camera to capture some of the magic. At some points I had to just stand still in awe, noticing the soft silence and then telling myself how beautiful this is. Best things in life really are free.
We spent two hours outside. From all the running around in the snow, a little snowball had formed around Fritzi’s name tag (you can see in in the pictures). I thought it was so cute!
The last part of the walk I liked especially. It was a very small path through the thicket of the forest and the branches of the trees formed small arches, making the path seem like a tunnel. The 7 year old me would have loved to use this as a playground!
Here are some pictures of the magical forest path, starting with a “Fritzi-Zoom”, just because. 😉
