It has been a quite mild winter here in Switzerland so far, but some days ago the temperature dropped below zero and it snowed. And with all the snow and freezing temperatures I got the crave for a warm breakfast. It was oatmeal time!
This time I wanted to give it a little twist, so I made it with chai tea and it turned out lovely. The chai flavor is not overwhelming, but there is a hint of it and I thought it goes very well with the dried fruit and nuts.
If you’re also craving warm oatmeal lately, try this recipe. It will make you want to cozy up on the couch and realize that a cold winter is actually not that bad.
Fruit & Nut Oatmeal With Chai Tea
(For 2 servings)
- 1 1/2 cup mixed oats
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup mixed nuts (I used almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds and pistachios)
- 1 1/4 cup chai tea
- 2 tbsp maple sirup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup nut milk of your choice (I used oat milk)
- a little sprinkle of salt
Prepare the chai tea before you start with the oatmeal. Put all ingredients in a small pot and heat it up. Once it starts boiling, you can turn off the heat and let everything sit for some minutes while stirring occasionally so that it doesn’t burn. Once the oats have soaked up all the liquids you can fill the oatmeal in a bowl and top with some more nuts, dried fruit of your choice and a little bit of maple sirup.
